Its main observation, monitoring and research centre, OVSICORI, distinguishes 112 cones, craters or volcanos that were active at some point in the past! At the moment there are 5 main active volcanos in the country. These are: Turrialba, Irazù, Poas, Arenal, and Rincón de la Vieja (see map).

The Volcano Lodges are renown for their good quality and service. All are very close or on the slopes of the most important and active volcanos of Costa Rica. The Guayabo Lodge is on the slopes of the smoking Turrialba volcano, at 1500mt asl. The Poas Volcano Lodge is on the slopes of the Poas volcano, at aprox 1900mt asl. The Arenal Observatory Lodge faces the Arenal volcano.
